Newest contest table has been designed for MIT’s well-known 2.007 robot competition for new Mechanical Engineering majors (mostly sophomores). The class, “2.007: Design & Manufacturing I,” introduces the sophomores (now in their 2nd semester as a MechE major) to the world of design and machining. Students spend the entire semester, with a kit of materials and tools, to design and fabricate their own remote-controlled robot to compete in a point-based obstacle course challenge at the semester’s end. Definitely a fun event to watch at the end of the semester. I had fun when I took the class back in 2007.
